Dr. Bente Klarlund Pedersen
Bente Klarlund Pedersen MD MDSc is professor of internal medicine at the University of Copenhagen and senior consultant at Rigshospitalet. She is the director of 1) The Danish National Research Foundation Centre of Inflammation and Metabolism (CIM) and 2) Center for Physical Activity Research (CFAS) funded by Trygfonden.
Her main research area is on the molecular mechanisms where physical activity influences human health. BKP and her research group have identified skeletal muscle as an endocrine organ that secretes hundreds of “myokines”. A main research focus today is to develop exercise as medicine for patients with chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, chronic obstructive lung disease, cardiovascular disease and cancer.
BKP has had many positions of trust and has e.g. served as President for The International Society of Exercise and Immunology, President for The Danish Society of Infectious Medicine, president for “The National Council for Public Health” in Denmark and is a member of the executive board of the European College of Sport Science (ECSS).
BKP has more than 500 scientific publications and her “H”-index is 92.
